As the trend towards local and regional diets grows, the plight of the global food labor force is largely excluded from the conversation. The Friedman Justice League and The Fletcher Food Policy Club will be hosting a screening of the film "Food Chains," a documentary that "reveals the human cost in our food supply." Food Chains follows the story of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, internationally recognized for their work in social responsibility, human trafficking, and gender-based violence amongst farm workers. They are especially credited for the Fair Food Program, creating partnerships amongst farmworkers, tomato growers, and retailers to increase the wages of agricultural laborers.
The film will be followed by a discussion with a panel of experts in food labor, including representatives from Boston based and national labor coalitions such as the Coalition of Immokalee workers, and the Food Chain Workers Alliance, in addition to Food Chains production staff. A general discussion will follow the panel.
