The Burnings by Lili Weckler
EXIT Stage Left San Francisco, CA
Three women in an asylum face accusation. The patients defend their lives by performing the stories of their imposed isolation. Forced to turn their personal narratives into a profit-making scheme for the institutionâs head doctor, the women grasp at control over their own stories. The piece uses movement, verse, and song to explore the way elements of every human being are marginalized by a culture built around money and power.
Part of the 2010 San Francisco Fringe Festival.
