Event
Brown Wing Overdrive / MYO / Jeff Carey
Brown Wing Overdrive is a duo of Chuck Bettis and Derek Morton, who are mad jugglers of oddly-shaped musical eggs. Processed banjo, shamanistic chants, and fried electronics set up against lattices of stuttered beatboxing to confound and delight. Unlike anything you have heard before, this little circus of sound scientists will present titilating and awe-inspring acrobatics with analog and digital gear.
Myo is the solo project of Cory O'Brien (b. 1980), a self taught hacker, computer musician and electro-acoustic improviser. Contact mics on polycarbonate sheets and feedback networks programmed in Pd and Max/MSP are the preferred tools. His music has been described by Vital Weekly as "louder, dirtier, gritty and angular, but still with ingredients of microsound".
American composer Jeff Carey's music is a blend of fixed-media composition and electro-instrumentalism -- the music of the visceral, ecstatic, and electric moment. His inventions of fluid sound are in an ever changing state: a mobile moves in the wind, changes shape, and is in constant renewal. Listeners are invited to explore an abstract sonic universe and engage in a world inspired by fictional cosmology, code breaking, and mathematical conundrums.
