Out of the Box: New Year Special
With Playback, members of the audience tell stories about their lives, which the players re-enact on the spot. Sometimes funny, sometimes moving, Playback always brings a community together. Share your own story, or just listen.
Our January performance features guest stories from member of the National Federation of the Blind who believe that, "Blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back."
Playback is a unique form of non-scripted theatre based on stories told by audience members. Real stories are shared and then enacted on the spot by a team of actors, dancers, and musicians. Performers follow no narrative agenda, but bring their dramatic skills and their humanity to embody, on the stage, the concerns and experiences of audience members; striving for compassion, humor, deep listening, perspective, and connection to the human spirit.
