SOUTHERN FRIED VINTAGE JAZZ
Seattle based musician, Datri Bean, says "Goodbye and thank you, Seattle" before moving to Austin, Texas. She will appear in concert at the Columbia City Theater located at 4916 Rainier Ave. S, in Seattle, on Sunday, April 8, 7 pm.
As the subject matter of much of her music suggests, Datri is returning to Austin due to her shameless love of hot weather.
Bean was raised in a rodeo family on the plains of Wyoming. Listening to her mother's scratchy Scott Joplin records, at the age of five, she began to study piano. She studied at the Boston Conservatory of Music, but found it a bit stuffy, so she quickly high-tailed it for Austin, Texas. Austin's broad musical palette helped her to develop her quirky back porch sound, which fuses 1930's jazz, classical, and folksy Americana. It was in Seattle, that she started playing her own material publicly.
Since the release of her all original debut album Slow Down Summertime last spring, Datri Bean has been busily touring the Northwest and sharing the stage with such notables as The Ditty Bops, Po' Girl and The Weepies, as well as local acts The Starlings, Pelusa, Chad Hinman and many others. Slow Down Summertime was named one of the "Top Five DIY Albums of 2006" by Performing Songwriter Magazine, and lead Datri to be called "one of the best artists you haven't heard of," by About.com.
Datri Bean will be raising a ruckus at Columbia City Theater, 4916 Rainier Ave S. on Sunday, April 8. More information is available at datribean.com
