Culinary Traditions & the Power of Women
With Chef Zarela Martinez & GrowNYC's Latin Farmers

Join us for a seminar where women come together to celebrate and honor culinary traditions.

Chef Zarela Martínez, a pioneer and driving force of Latin cuisine in the U.S. has invited GrowNYC's Latin farmers to cook with her and prepare a delicious Green Mole accompanied by corn tortillas, hand-made from fresh nixtamal. Hear some of Zarela's fascinating life stories as a Mexican woman chef in the U.S., and learn about GrowNYC mpowering initiatives, while tasting the delicacies of Mexican cuisine!

In this unique seminar, our Tastemaster Chef Zarela Martínez is joined by our social partners GrownNYC and the women from Hot Bread Kitchen, while preparing traditional green mole with the freshest ingredients from GrowNYC's farmers.

GrowNYC supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small-family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers. As part of their work, GrowNYC's "New Farmer Development Project" (NFDP) identifies, educates and supports immigrants with agricultural experience by helping them become local farmers and establish small farms in the region.

Hot Bread Kitchen is a social-purpose bakery and not-for-profit organization that provides foreign-born women with essential training in entrepreneurship, English as a Second Language, and commercial baking.  They bake fresh, multi-ethnic breads with traditional recipes from around the world, and make it a priority to use local and organic ingredients.

4% of all event ticket sales will benefit Grow NYC's (formerly the Council of the Environment of New York City) New Farmers Development Project that helps immigrant farmers New York's Hudson Valley & Catskill Regions, New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania.
