FROM PHILADELPHIA TO THE FRONT
Directed by Judy Gelles and Marianne Bernstein.
US, 2005, 37 min., English.

This inspiring documentary profiles the experiences of six Philadelphia U.S. military veterans, now in their 80s, who fought against the Germans during WWII. The film features stunning archival footage, including the first Jewish worship service at Dachau after it was liberated.

with
ILONA, UPSTAIRS
Directed by Melissa Hammel.
US, 2005, 24 min., English.

Melissa Hammel worked with documentary legend Albert Maysles (Grey Gardens, Gimme Shelter) to create this stunning portrait of her eccentric and elusive West Village neighbor Ilona--an octogenarian artist, performer, false eyelash-wearer, and Holocaust survivor.
