| Description |
CINERAMA: SUNDAY, MARCH 18 3:00 PM
KZ Director: Rex Bloomstein UK 2005, 95 min, DigiBeta; English/German w/subtitles
On the banks of the River Danube, surrounded by the beautiful lush landscape of Upper Austria, lies the picturesque town of Mauthausen. While "Oompah" bands play traditional tunes and tourists enjoy pub fare, busloads of schoolchildren visit the town's main attraction. KZ examines the shadow cast on visitors, tour guides and local residents by Mauthausen's notorious concentration camp (KZ in German shorthand).
Preceded by: THE HOLOCAUST TOURIST: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO NEVER AGAIN? (short) Director: Jes Benstock; UK 2005, 10 min, Beta
An examination of Holocaust tourism, a cottage industry that has emerged since Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List.
Co-sponsored by Music of Remembrance. |
