Romeo & Juliet
Directed by Derek Magyar
Starring Tom Payne & Ana Khamis

The most enduring love story of all time is set in a world that has mostly been destroyed and only two families remain, the Montagues and the Capulets.  Can true love save civilization or is all mankind damned for eternity? Utilizing for the first time the Riverside Studios in Atwater Village, audiences will be transported to a world gone mad with a visually rich design that will immerse them in an environmental experience that no ROMEO & JULIET has yet attemptedthe end of days.  Or are they?

Contemporary form and Elizabethan text merge as this production is set in an apocalyptic world that delves into our most primary feelings of sexuality, lust and desire and explores the roots of programmed ideas and feelings about love, god and life. This story is not about tragic young love. It is about the tragedy of adhering to codes of behavior that are inherited and not freely chosen.

DEREK MAGYAR (Director) A CalArts graduate, Derek has seamlessly shifted from actor to director, writer to producer and back again. Magyar garnered critical praise and awards for his candid portrayal of "X", in "Boy Culture" for which he was nominated and won Best Actor at a number of international film festivals.  Also the Lionsgate thriller, "Train," opposite Thora Birch and directed by "Homeland" creator Gideon Raff.  Leading role in "Fencewalkers" directed by "X-Files" creator Chris Carter and co-starring Mehcad Brooks, Katie Cassidy and Natalie Dormer. Magyar also starred opposite Luke Evans in Pathe and Anchor Bay's Horror film "No One Lives." He also starred in a supporting role alongside Ed Harris, David Duchovney and William Fichtner in "Phantom" directed by Todd Robinson. Derek just wrapped production on the feature film "Threshold" produced by Lakeshore Entertainment starring alongside Trilby Glover and Randy Wanyne to be released in early 2015.  Some of his television credits include a recurring role on "CSI," "Criminal Minds," a multi-episode arc on "Medium," "Boston Legal," "StrikeBack," "Army Wives," a recurring arc on "The Cape," the pilot of TNT's "Major Crimes," "Dirt," Charmed" and probably of most note, portraying Commander Kelby on the final season of "Star Trek" opposite Scott Bakula.

Magyar's directorial debut, "Flying Lessons," starred Academy Award nominee Hal Holbrook, Maggie Grace and Academy Award winner Christine Lahti.   His Father, a filmmaker and his mother, the head of an artist colony, influenced his innate artistic abilities beyond the stage and inspired Magyar's writing, acting, directing and producing.

TOM PAYNE (Romeo) was recently seen in "The Physician" as the title character, Rob Cole, and based on the bestselling novel by Noah Gordon, about a young man who wants to learn medicine from a renowned scholar in Persia played by Ben Kingsley.  The film also stars Stellan Skarsgaard and Olivier Martinez and was released by Universal Pictures internationally.  Previously, Tom starred on "Luck," the critically- acclaimed HBO series from creators Michael Mann and David Milch which centered on the fast-paced and sometimes brutal sport of professional Horse Racing. Payne played the lead role of 'Leon Micheaux', a jockey in the center of this tumultuous world.  Payne made his feature film debut in "Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day" opposite Amy Adams and Frances McDormand, and was cited as one of Screen International's "Stars of Tomorrow."  Other credits include playing the famous footballer George Best in the BBC telefilm "Best" as well as "Miss Marple" with Brian Cox, and "Wuthering Heights" opposite Tom Hardy and Andrew Lincoln. A U.K. native, Tom is a graduate of London's Central School of Speech and Drama, from which he earned his BA in Acting in 2005. At the School, he appeared in stagings of such plays as Class Enemy, The Balcony, The Rivals, Three Sisters, A Midsummer Night's Dream (as Bottom), Richard III, and The Man Who Had All the Luck.  Post-graduation, Mr. Payne starred in a lead role in David Grindley's sold-out New Ambassadors revival of Journey's End in London's West End; and played opposite Imogen Stubbs in Maria Aberg's Soho Theatre staging of Shrieks Of Laughter.
