How do we know what dinosaurs looked like? For nearly two centuries, paleoartists have shaped our views of the prehistoric world by combining scientific knowledge with an artistic eye. Join artist Matt Celeskey for a brief look at the changes in paleoart from the 19th to the 21st Centuries, then try your hand at reconstructing a dinosaur. Using the Museum's Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton as a starting point, we will examine the bones, review the latest science, then add muscles, skin, scales and feathers to create your own artist's representation of a living T. rex!
Adults and interested children ages 13 and up.
Anatomy handouts and basic drawing materials will be provided. Feel free to bring your favorite sketching supplies (no tripods, easels, or wet media please).
Limit 20 participants. The class fee includes all materials.
The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science reserves the right to cancel any event that does not reach a minimum of 6 participants.
