The People v. Leo Frank - Peoria
Truth and fiction are the reasons we need documentaries and docudramas. Truth, as in The People v. Leo Frank, provides for a powerful, troubling, boldly honest depiction of a murder that mere words cannot convey. The words are those straight from the trial transcripts, as well as reminiscences and reflections. But, so are the multi-keepers of "facts" of an Atlanta, 1913, in the grip of shock, anger, racism and anti-Semitism, and finally, much too late, regrets. It is not too late for film watchers to see and learn something from of the dark side of American life.
"The Frank saga says as much about current events as it does about history." The Los Angeles Times, October 30, 2009
"The biases and divisions brought to the surface by the Frank case are still easy to find today." The New York Times, November 1, 2009
A special jury award from History Makers, 2010
