"Cargill...a talented and truly wacky scribe..." - Chicago Tribune
"...Cargill has a distinctive voice and a quirky humor..." - Chicago Sun-Times
"[Sideway is] a Fringe Festival darling" - NY Magazine
"Sideway is a force to be reckoned with" - Chicago's Windy City Times

"feeling sorry for roman POLANSKI" is a comic tragedy in one act that bends our perceptions of those two genres. The play is reminiscent of the brutal comedies of LAUREL & HARDY and The HONEYMOONERS. "feeling sorry for roman POLANSKI" echoes those classic comedies by featuring lower class Americans struggling to laugh in a time of hardship. Our current television sitcoms have shifted towards ironically sly humor where the situations have no consequences in the lives of the characters. In "feeling sorry for roman POLANSKI", like the classic comedies, we see these characters fight against the backdrop of morality, forgiveness, financial ruin, and death. Additionally, although the play has been developing for over a decade, Mr. Polanski's current legal woes have brought him back to the forefront of the news and this timeless story could now not be more timely.

The play explores the relationship between Bink and Myrna Waverly, a quirky 30-something couple who have for years been trudging along the same path, parallel lines that never intersect. In spite of a deep love for one another they have lost their connection. These are two people who are desperately trying to reconnect with one another. Having that bond is one of our deepest human needs, and in the current age of financial difficulty and social uncertainty we need to find it even more.

We believe, in our current economic time everyone can use a good laugh. And we believe that "feeling sorry for roman POLANSKI" will deliver. Sideway Theater Company and TACO Dog Productions are proud to bring this project to the Hollywood Fringe Festival. As was noted of Sideway's work during our last participation in the FringeNYC: "its simple profundity, resonates boldly amongst the kitsch irony and iconoclasm that sometimes characterize the Fringe Festival.... keep an eye out for their next New York visit. They are folks to keep an eye on" (nytheatre.com) and the New York Times praised our first comic one act at FringeNYC as ÃÃ,¢deeply personalÃÃ,¢. From our past partnership with FringeNYC, Sideway has been hailed a "fringe festival darling" (New York Magazine) and "a force to be reckoned with" (Windy City Times).
