He combines classics of the genre (Skip James, Blind Willie McTell, Elizabeth Cotton) with African American stories, and his own original songs and performance pieces. Like the best of the old-time players, Guy is at heart a storytellera master of transporting his audience to a creaking front porch as he stomps his way through songs ranging from soulful and moaning to playful and bouncy. He accompanies himself on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and accordion.
