Dave Grusin: Not Enough Time
Millions of people all over the world love the music of Dave Grusin. Dave Grusin: Not Enough Time, is a full length documentary about the legendary award-winning music producer, composer and pianist. Grusins work during his extensive six-decade career has resulted in some of the most moving and memorable music for iconic films and television shows including Tootsie, "The Firm," On Golden Pond, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and Three Days of the Condor to name just a few. The film is being produced with the full participation from Dave Grusin and his family. Dave Grusin: Not Enough Time explores Dave's meteoric rise from rural Colorado to being one of the most influential composers and arrangers of the last century. Of his eight Academy Award nominations he took home the Oscar for Best Original Score for The Milagro Beanfield War. Grusin was also nominated for thirty-eight Grammys (winning 10) one Emmy award and four Golden Globe awards. He has partnered with an illustrious list of industry icons including Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand, Warren Beatty, Steven Spielberg, Sydney Pollack, Robert Redford, Renee Fleming, James Taylor, Paul Simon, and many, many others. Along with his unparalleled artistry, Dave Grusin was an early trailblazer. He co-founded GRP Records, the first completely digital record label, that led to the transformation of the music industry and helped usher in the new world of digital music and internet downloads. In the film, Grusin shares stories about the evolution of the film and music industries. The film also includes tales from those that have been around him throughout his career. "One of the things I still viscerally feel is the need to get stuff done on a deadline, says Grusin. That kind of work mode became almost the only way that I knew how to do it. I couldn't get anything done if I had too much time." Filmmakers Barbara Bentree and John Rangel have been granted unprecedented access to Grusins archives including rare music and never-before-seen footage. The film is scored almost exclusively with the music of Dave Grusin. It includes many of Dave's most treasured compositions but will also introduce music that even Grusin fans don't know about. "Dave Grusin's career is based upon a profound work ethic and an exceptional focus on quality, says Bentree. He has unanimous respect and admiration within the film and music industries. Because of Dave's incredible modesty, many people have no idea just how vast his accomplishments have been." "As filmmakers and jazz musicians, this film is personal for us, adds Rangel. We wanted to make a film about a jazz musician that was uplifting and inspiring. We are honored to share this incredible story about an amazing man."
