LITHA:

One of Europe's top Celtic acts comprising members of Old Blind Dogs and Cara, Litha present an exciting mixture of songs and tunes guaranteed to transport you on an exciting journey through their cultures and beyond enthralling audiences wherever they travel.

On the 6th, we are offering a unique opportunity to hear four of Europe's finest Celtic musicians and singers come together to perform an exhilarating and unforgettable night of music and song. Litha, one of Europe's top Celtic acts (comprising members of Old Blind Dogs, Cara and the Kate Rusby Band) present an exciting mixture of songs and tunes guaranteed to transport you on an exciting journey through their cultures and beyond which enthrals audiences wherever they travel.

"Litha" -- an Anglo-Saxon word -- represents the season of light, festivals and music: the time when Litha, four renowned, award-winning musicians from Europe -- two from Scotland and two from Germany -- met at a music festival.

Litha is an equally strong song and tune band. With two fantastic lead singers, four part harmonies, fiery fiddles, box, flute and a rhythm section that has been referred to as "the dream team," there's nothing the quartet can't do. The huge variety of possible instrumental and vocal combinations gives Litha an exhilarating, ever changing sound that takes the listener on a journey not only through their home countries but also through the common ground shared between these two great cultures and beyond.

Aaron Jones and Gudrun Walther provide the quartet with two outstanding lead voices which cover a broad range of contemporary and traditional songs. Backing vocals from Claire Mann and Juergen Treyz add impressive four part harmonies to the mix. The two men are the backbone of the rhythm and harmony as Juergen's varied and virtuoso guitar combines excellently with Aaron's punchy and rhythmical bouzouki.

Whether it is furious fiddles, a gentle air on the flute or a waltz on the diatonic accordion, the melody is provided by the girls of Litha. The instrumental pieces include traditional jigs and reels from Scotland and Ireland, German traditional dance tunes and original compositions. The songs range from traditional folk songs to new settings of poems, original compositions and songs draw from the rich well of singer/songwriters on the traditional music scene.
The new album 'Dancing of the Light' was released on January 31st, 2012.

"They meet at this quite literal Celtic crossroads to share and celebrate their common ground through exciting yet truly relaxed musicianship that's so natural and refreshing, partly because you feel (as they themselves clearly do) that they've nothing to prove." -Living Tradition Magazine

"Each of these selections is intelligently scored and superbly played, bearing replay in a way that instrumental tracks don't always manage. Vocally as well as instrumentally, Litha are truly blessed, since they possess two excellent lead singers in Aaron and Gudrun, while Claire and Jürgen's backing vocals are both supportive and well harmonised. This CD is an especially scintillating example of the diversity principle at work providing an immensely satisfying listening experience." -Roots Magazine
