Musically comparable to John Prine, with the wit of a stand up comedian, the humble, gracious, and hilarious John Craigie is one of the best storytellers of our time. Its no wonder that Chuck Norris sends him fan mail, and Todd Snider brings him gifts on stage. While touring solo and with the likes of the Shook Twins, Nicki Bluhm, and Animal Liberation Orchestra, Craigie has made his audiences laugh and cry all in the same song, creating a fan-base that is more like a continually-expanding circle of friends.
Formed in 2010, The Appleseed Collective from Ann Arbor, Michigan is kind of like a cultural carbon offset in an age of corporations and climate change. They buy & sell local, eat from gardens, and create music that represents the best of human musical creativity: bluegrass barn burners, old soul jazz, sparse mood pieces, and full band harmony singing. Their success is national, and it's organic. And we're absolutely thrilled to be bringing them to Saratoga for the first time!
The Bright New Music Series features exciting emerging artists who are shaping the future of American roots music. This series is named in honor of Kevin and Claudia Bright, lead donors to the Campaign for Caffè Lena.
