Bluestocking Films 2012
The Bluestocking Film Series - Films by Women - was conceived as a biannual screening event by Kate Kaminski. Gitgo Productions, a DIY production company owned by Kaminski and partner Betsy Carson, is collaborating with venue partner, the St. Lawrence Arts Center, to bring this innovative screening series to the beautiful, culturally vibrant city of Portland, Maine.
Because women filmmakers and women's stories are under-represented and often marginalized & misrepresented in media worldwide, our mission is to encourage and promote production by women filmmakers of stories that reflect our diverse experiences and to bring those films to a mixed-gender audience to show that films directed by women can be of interest and value to all.
As part of that mission, one of our main criteria - and what makes the Bluestocking Film Series unique - is that submissions must not only be directed by a woman but must also "pass" The Bechdel Test, a measure of gender bias in films.
