The Cat & the Canary - Lyric Photoplay Silent Movie
This Universal Pictures presentation was a landmark film: it started the genre of spooky old mansion movies that captivated generations from the 1920s to the present day. Directed by the legendary impressionist Paul Leni and beautifully photographed with great period sets, The Cat and The Canary has great elements of comedy, melodrama and atmosphere sure to please all audiences. It is a visual delight, alternating mystery with laughs and a great cast of characters. The film stars Laura LaPlante, the first blonde bombshell of the movies, Ohio native Gertrude Astor and popular 1920s leading man Creighton Hale. Our presentation is a gorgeous quality print that will make this a must-see experience. A silent film wouldnt be complete without expert accompaniment as it was originally presented. Returning from his triumphant grand opening performance last June, Ann Arbor theatre organist Steven Ball mans the console of our expanded 1927 theatre pipe organ to provide riveting music and effects to complete an authentic re-creation of the great days of the photoplay! Concessions are available, including the CAC Cinema-pub. The CAC provides attended parking for all events.
