For the opening night of the 3rd annual Fall Experimental Music Festival, <fidget> returns to John Cage's Song Books.
A group of local and guest innovators in music and dance come together to dive into Cage's exacting yet unconventional instructions for performance. The result: strange, cutting edge, brainy, and beautiful.
Introduction by cage scholar Rob Haskins (whose biography of Cage came out earlier this year).
This two volume collection of scores provides instructions for: the solo voice, performative happenings, and electronics. Song Books is laced with texts by Marcel Duchamp, Buckminster Fuller, Henry David Thoreau, and can be seen as a compendium of Cage's compositional techniques throughout the 1960s.
