MARY BUE

Heretofore more of a tender coffeehouse balladeer, the Duluth music scene mainstay plugged in and blew off a harbors worth of steam while recording her breakthrough collection at Sacred Heart Studio (which adds a holy spirit to many a record). Fans of 90s alt-rock darlings like Belly and Jen Trynin will immediately take to the rocky hooks of songs like Candy and Hearts Desire. Bues ghost-confronting, demons-wrestling lyrics seep in more slowly but prove similarly alluring.  Chris Riemenschneider,  Minneapolis Star Tribune

An accomplished recording artist and touring musician, Marys 6 studio albums manage to capture her electrifying stage presence. Marys last two albums and her new EP (to be released in May 2017) were 100% fan-funded via Kickstarter. She has been awarded the Escape to Create Artist in Residence in Seaside, FL, and the Big Cypress Nature Preserve Artist in Residence in Ochopee, FL and in January 2017 a 3 month artist residency at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, NM.
2015s  Holy Bones was deemed Highly recommended by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Mary moved to Minneapolis in May 2016 to open her yoga studio Imbue Yoga which she currently manages & teaches with 5 other instructors (including Molly Maher - also on the bill!), trains for half marathons,  eats delicious vegan food and writes voraciously.

ALAN SPARHAWK (SOLO) ROM OW

ow is a band from Duluth, Minnesota, formed in 1993. Low released its first album, I Could Live in Hope, in 1994 (producer by Kramer) on Vernon Yard Records. Pegged as "slowcore," due to the band's minimalist soundscapes and the beautiful harmonies of Sparhawk and Parker, which stood in stark contrast to the era's fascination with "grunge." Low continued to work with varied producers and released a constant stream of critically acclaimed albums (e.g., Long Division, Curtain Hits the Cast, Things We Lost in the Fire), one-offs, collaborations and other miscellany, including a classic Christmas album, aptly titled Low Christmas. Throughout, Low toured the world and eventually found themselves in the company of acts such as the Dirty Three, Radiohead and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Sparhawk has formed a few side projects, notably the dirty punk blues band, The Black Eyed Snakes, the rock trio The Retribution Gospel Choir s well as a duo with Tiny Desk Concert winner Gaelynn Lea called Murder of Crow.

MOLLY MAHER

If its possible for a band to own a town, then Molly Maher and her band of Disbelievers are as close as it gets to holding the keys. Molly is considered by some the reigning queen of the Twin Cities scene  shes an incomparable singer and songwriter with compelling depth and soul, and has shared the stage with some of the best acts in the country, among them Los Lobos and John Hiatt.
