'16 Festival of Carols
Usher in the holidays with traditional and contemporary music, featuring Vesper Chorale and Children's Choir of Michiana. Two extended works to be featured are: "The Christmas Story" by Hugo Distler, and "Christmas in the Western World" by William Grant Still. Distler is a German composer whose style mirrors the musical trends of the mid-20th Century while remaining accessible to contemporary audiences. Grant Still, a prominent African-American composer of the early 20th Century, created a collection of carols from various western cultures, reflecting his eras understanding of cultural music. Join us to welcome additional leadership for both ensembles and ring-in the holidays with joy from these fresh and familiar melodies. Concert at 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. (preconcert lecture at 2:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m.)
