THE DEFIBULATORS
The Defibulators have emerged as one of the most engaging live acts from the thriving roots scene in Brooklyn, NY, melding bluegrass, rockabilly, honky-tonk and punk into their own eclectic sound.
Likened to watching "Hee-Haw on mescaline," The Defibulators jump-start new life into vintage country music, delivering a unique sound that's anything but old-timey. Their sonic buckshot is a mix of sawing fiddle, fat telecaster twang; howling harmonica; a driving rhythm section of upright bass, drums, and washboard; heavy vocal harmonies; and surreal lyrics that spin tall and tiny tales of deception, debauchery, depleted bank accounts, domestic dilemmas, fanaticism, vintage firearms, biological anomalies, airline intoxication and animal ennui.
Their 1st tour van was a 1977 Dodge ambulance that they accidentally bought on eBay.
"Roots-heavy, post-punk music that reinvents the conventions of country music with a CBGB's-meets-Grand Ole Opry feel." -Crawdaddy
Red Dirt Road was formed shortly after Susy, Pat and Doug met in a local song swap. They had similar musical tastes and loved singing together. Soon songs took on arrangements and the group started singing in local venues. Susy Marker's strong vocal is backed up by her fiddle. Pat Walker directs the vocal harmonies and supplies her southern charm with vocals and banjo. Missy Alexander, songwriter and vocalist. Doug Mathewson on vocals, dobro, mandolin and guitar. Bill Petkanus on guitar and mandolin. Peter Nelson on bass. Songwriters Doug Mathewson, Susy Marker and Missy Alexander provide the repertoire.
