The Gaslight Tinkers' thrilling blend of global rhythms creates a danceable groove around a core of traditional New England old time and Celtic fiddle music, merging boundless positive energy with melody and song. We're bringing the Tinkers to Saratoga to play two times today. In the late afternoon they'll play an outdoor dance at the Farmer's Market at part of an ArtsFest First Friday event that Caffe Lena is collaborating on, and at 8 PM they'll play a full show for the cafe audience.
Since its formation in 2012 the band has lit up the East Coast, from clubs and live radio to major festivals and barn dances. The quartet is fronted by folk scene boundary-pusher Peter Siegel (mandolin, guitar, banjo picker and songwriter) who has been seen on stage with Pete Seeger and Judy Collins, and played traditional and progressive tunes for contra dances for decades. Bassist Garrett Sawyer has toured the US and Canada as a member of Senegalese hip-hop band Gokh-Bi System and throughout the Caribbean with soca star Kurt Allen. Now teamed up with the powerful and deeply knowledgable ethnomusicologist drummer Dave Noonan and fantastically versatile Hawaiian fiddler Audrey Knuth, The Gaslight Tinkers shake the stage with "Music that consistently fizzes and pops with unexpected textures and turns." (The Valley Advocate)
