The Caretaker
In Tom Conyers' taut, suspenseful, atmospheric debut feature film, a plague of vampirism has swept across the world. A small but discordant group of survivors hole up in a country mansion. They soon discover that a vampire also shares the house with them. So begins an uneasy alliance, which soon threatens to fall apart.
Director's Statement: "I wanted to make a horror film that was different, that harked back to unique, one-off horror films like 'Carnival of Souls' (original version), 'The Hunger' and 'Martin'. Favoring atmosphere and suspense over gore, I also looked to filmmakers like Hitchcock. I also wanted to explore themes that aren't usually the preserve of horror films. One was the nature of marriage and commitment, a topical issue at the moment. Another theme is whether surviving is always winning."

Tom Conyers has made half a dozen short films, including 'Shining the Ball' and 'Window Shopper', and is the author of the novel, 'Morse Code for Cats' (Laguna Press, December 2008). The Caretaker is his first feature film.  He obtained a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University, majoring in English Literature and Philosophy. In 1999, he completed an Advanced Certificate in Media at Footscray TAFE, followed up with a Graduate Diploma in Film and Television at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2000.

Producer Mark White is a graduate of the Royal New Zealand School of Dance. With 'Limbs Dance Company' he toured the world. With his own company, 'Full of Piranhas' he continued to tour extensively, even giving a number of Command Performances for various members of the British royal family. While touring Australia in the early nineties in the acting role of Wes in 'Ladies Night', Mark decided to settle in Sydney, where he continued to perform or produce shows for the commercial or club scenes. He is perhaps best know as the choreographer of the film 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' (1994).
