Weimar on the Pacific - Paradise Found, Paradise Lost
From 1942 to 1952 there was a flourishing German-speaking community in Los Angeles on the shores of the Pacific. They were filmmakers, composers, writers and scientists who left Germany as Hitler rose to power, often moving to other countries where they thought they would be safe before finally coming to America.

For many, language was a problem, and they often preferred company among themselves. Two "salons" became a home away from home for many of these intellectuals. "Weimar on the Pacific", which includes a short film, will look at the salons of Salka Viertel and Marta and Lion Feuchtwanger, salons that welcomed guests such as Thomas Mann, Bertolt Brecht, Albert Einstein, and Igor Stravinsky. Along the way, we'll learn about the challenges and contributions of this extraordinary community.
