Description
Blindfolded audiences are seated in the performance area. Dancers reveal themselves and define speed, space, location, distance, architecture and bodily effort through air currents, touch, and sound (their own, other objects, and the rooms acoustic dimensions). Periodically, the audience is moved, shifting their relationship to the space and one another.

Deeply situated in the present moment, Unseen Dances evoke un-socialized instincts that jostle with context, memory, metaphor and imagery. Often under-used sensory resources are called up. The dislocations of unseen space and difficult to parse social/spatial relationships are challenging. Touch, hearing, smell, and balance bypass language, are close-to-the-bone and personal.

Dana Salisbury is a multi-disciplinary artist whose investigations span dance, video, language, site-specific performance/installation and visual art. Her dances and videos have been seen in New York at PS 122, Judson Church, Dance Theater Workshop, Dixon Place, University Settlement and the 92nd Street Y.  She has created site-specific works for Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and the Old American Can Factory in Brooklyn. Her visual art has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries. In 2005, she created Dark Dining Projects, an on-going series of sensory feasts served to blindfolded diners.
