Savor the Flavor 2009



Savor the Flavor 2009 is The Food Network meets the Tri-Cities, WA, entertainment to satisfy every palate!

A world-class two-day wine, food and culinary extravaganza joins tastemakers from all aspects of the food and wine industry: Food network Celebrity chefs, Iron Chef-style competitions, media personalities Best Burger Throwdown,  shop for everything kitchen/cooking and grilling-related, cooking classes and wine tasting seminars and even Kids Cook, too!


Held at the TRAC in Pasco, WA during the crisp autumn days of November, the festival is flanked by a backdrop of vines turning brilliant colors and breath-taking desert sunsets over the Columbia River which perfectly set the events tone. Just in time for the years most festive season with Thanksgiving cooking tips, unique holiday gift ideas and guest appearances by chef Santa Claus himself. Plus, special celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, classes and autograph sessions by Food Networks Melissa dArabian, star of Ten Dollar Dinners and Christina Arkiosamy, author of The Spice Merchants Daughter cookbook.  


Witness the head to head Iron Chef-style competitions where 8 of the Mid-Columbias best chefs battle it out for the coveted title of The Fresh Chef of the Mid-Columbia on the Fiesta Foods Stage.

Cheer on your favorite local radio and television personalities as they compete in the Best Burger Throwndown to support the Tri-City Food Bank in the Ranch and Home Outdoor Grilling Pavilion. The coveted Fans Choice Award of 2009 winner will be determined by the amount of the coins donated by fans, in support of each personality's burger. So save your coins and come out to support your favorite media personalities like Doug and Denise from Mix 105.3, Big D and Stacy Lee from KORD, Michael McDonald from KONA 610, Adam Lamberd from 97 Rock, Kevin Uretsky from KVEW TV, and more, while raising some much needed funds for the Tri-City Food Bank. Remember, 1 can of donated food feeds only 1 person, while $1 feeds 20.


Also, throughout the two day event in the Ranch and Home Pavilion, Dan Sweet from Louisiana Grills & Country Smokers, Troy Olsen with Big Green Egg BBQs and Derek Perot of Gourmet Soul BBQ will be demonstrating BBQ techniques and grilling some unique recipes for participants to sample.


Come for lunch, stay for dinner at the Mid-Columbia Flavors tasting pavilion. Chefs from favorite local restaurants will serve up their signature recipes. Over 20 wineries, breweries and distilleries will be onsite where you can sip a variety of beverages from throughout the region; including Mirco-brews, Wines, Vodka, Gin, and even a Build-your-own Bloody Mary. Purchase scrip tasting tickets for a nominal charge per sip/bite.

While filling your stomach in the Mid-Columbia Flavors area, relax for a moment while various community leaders prepare their best recipes during the Amateur Chef Competitions for the chance to win a donation to the charity of their choice. Each attendee will have the opportunity to vote for your favorite amateur chef throughout the weekend to support the worthy non-profit organizations of the Tri-Cities.


If all this culinary excitement wasn't enough, sit in on one of the 30-minute to 1 hour cooking classes or wine tasting seminars. Wine experts from Wine Press Northwest will be presenting limited seating wine tasting seminars that range from Wine Tasting 101 for the beginner, Food & Wine in Blissful Harmony pairing classes, to the more advanced, showcasing the sliding scale of Rieslings, unique local Varietals and a blind tasting. Sharpen your skills in cooking classes like 20-Minute Meals presented by Chuck Fisher. The kids can even learn a thing or two in hands-on cooking classes in the Kids Cook, Too! area, where Beverly Matthews of Chef Buddies will be cooking up entertaining activities for the aspiring Super Duper Mini Chef and Food Networks Melissa d'Arabian will present a class for parents on cooking with your kids.


Make sure you pick up your Culinary Passport and collect stamps from select vendors, as you shop at the 70 plus retailers of everything thing kitchen, cooking, grilling and home-related for your chance to win a 7-day Savor the Flavor: Culinary Experience Cruise to Alaska in July, sponsored by Travel Leaders.


Savor the Flavor 2009 is produced by TASTE Tri Cities Magazine, a free publication promoting locally owned and operated restaurants in the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas. Proceeds from this event benefit Oasis School, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
