Sunday Evening with the Steinway

he SC Philharmonic, Rice Music House and Nickelodeon Theatre present Note by Note: Movie, Music & Marina, June 22 at 7 p.m. at The Hall at 320 Senate and Canal, 320 Senate Street.

The event is a partnership that was created to interweave film and music in a creative way and, at the same time, raise funds for two of the midlands most active arts non-profits.

The event features the SC debut of the documentary Note By Note: The Making of Steinway L1036 and a live concert on a Steinway L1036 by pianist Marina Lomazov.

Jyotindra M. Parekh, owner of Rice Music House, saw the documentary several months ago and immediately thought of the partnership. Nickelodeon Theatre Executive Director Larry Hembree was delighted that Parekh initiated the partnership, being a huge fan of the Philharmonics programming and commenting that having world class pianist Marina Lomazov join the festivities makes it all the more magical. Rhonda Hunsinger, SC Philharmonic Executive Director adds, Weve been looking for an opportunity to collaborate with the Nickelodeon, and the perfect chance presented itself through our friends at Rice Music and Note by Note. Its a natural fit and enables us to bring a very special and unique event to our community.

The event begins at 7:00 with wine and appetizers provided by Dupre-Dukes Signature Catering (www.dupredukes.com). The screening of the film at 8:00 will be followed by a concert by pianist Lomazov and a question and answer session with filmmaker Ben Niles.

The film is a feature-length independent documentary that follows the creation of a Steinway concert grand, #L1037. It explores the relationship between musician and instrument, chronicles the manufacturing process, and investigates what makes each Steinway unique. Featured in the film are Harry Connick, Jr. and world-renowned concert pianists Helene Grimaud and Lang Lang.

Ukrainian-American pianist Marina Lomazov (www.marinalomazov.com) has established herself as one of the most passionate and charismatic performers on the concert scene. Her performances in North America and South America, Europe, Japan, and Russia have prompted several reviewers to recognize her as "one of the best young pianists in America today."
