JVC Jazz Festival & LPR present: Simone, KJ Denhert
A highly-praised live performer whose resume includes starring roles in such acclaimed Broadway musicals as Rent and Aida, Simone has developed an exciting and diverse repertoire of pop, soul, jazz, rock and funk, expressed in shows performed throughout the U.S. and in the UK, Ireland, Holland, Finland, Spain and France. With the 2008 release of her first full-length album, Simone On Simone (a big band tribute to her mother, Nina Simone, produced by famed jazz musician and arranger Bob Belden), music lovers worldwide discovered the vocal dynamism that live audiences have witnessed for over a decade. Blessed with a rich vocal range, an innate skill for lyrical interpretation and a soul-deep understanding of music as a means of healing, empowerment and celebration, Simone is very much her mother's daughter, and she is also most assuredly a multi-talented artist in her own right.

Breakout artist KJ Denhert, who is featured on the cover of Jazz Improv magazine this month, is in the midst of an ever-expanding tour with no less than sixty shows in three countries since December.  With the release of her exhuberant cd, LUCKY 7, KJ is on the rise and hotter than ever.  Catch this artist and her world class ensemble featuring saxman Aaron Heick (Chaka Kahn /Barbara Steisand/Richard Bona,) Senegalese bass virtuoso Mamadou Ba (Harry Belefonte/Regina Carter,) Bennett Paster on keys, Ray Levier  on drums and Kevin Bujo Jones on percussion.  KJ will perform her award-winning compositions, that blend urban folk and jazz on June 21st at 11pm,  at the newly opened club, Poisson Rouge, formerly the renowned Village Gate.    Come hear why artists as varied as Jackson Browne, Keb Mo', Tierney Sutton and Dr. Lonnie Smith have joined KJ's orbit and why the prestigious Umbria Jazz Festival will feature KJ on the mainstage this July, opening for Alicia Keys.
