HAiR The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical!
Book and Lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado
Music by Galt MacDermot
Originally produced for the Broadway stage by Michael Butler
Directed by Jon Rosen Choreography by Dudley Brooks
Important Notice! Three More Weeks at the Historic Hoover Theater! HAiR has closed at Theatre on San Pedro Square but if you are still interested in seeing HAiR in San Jose, you are in luck! We have moved our production from Theatre on San Pedro Square to the Historic Hoover Theater at 1635 Park Avenue (Rose Garden area) and we will re-open on Thursday, August 9th. If you have already seen HAiR at Theatre on San Pedro Square, it will be the same cast and show, but the Hoover Theater's proscenium stage will provide a different appearance to the production. For tickets, please click here.
Before Jesus Christ Superstar, before Tommy and long before Rent, there was the original: HAiR, The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical which revolutionized Broadway and changed musical theater history forever.
In celebration of HAiR's 40th anniversary, Stagelight Productions, in association with Studio Theatre of California, is proud to present this remarkable work which aims to both entertain and enlighten. To paraphrase the closing words of the show's finale:
"Let The Sun Shine In Again!"
Please note: This production is equivalent to an R-rated film due to nudity, sexual situations, drug references and adult language. Anyone under the age of 17 will not be admitted without a parent or adult legal guardian.

| Notes |
Isn't this show also playing at another theater? Yes, it is. From August 9 through August 24, there is an extended run at the Historic Hoover Theater. For tickets to those performances, please click here.
Is there really a nude scene? Yes, there is... in fact there are several "nude scenes". If nudity offends you, we definitely recommend that you not see this show. HAiR was the first major Broadway show to use nudity as part of the production. We consider the nude scenes to be very important to the show and believe it would be artistically inappropriate to remove them simply to avoid offending someone in the audience. However, we also feel that anyone who sees the show with an open mind will agree with us in the end that the message of the show transcends any of the issues surrounding the strong language and brief nudity.
Is there entertainment before and after the shows? We're glad you asked! Approximately 30 minutes before each show, there will be an informal concert-style presentation on-stage by selected members of the tribe and other guests. These pre-shows will change for each performance, and may include a variety of music (rock, folk, pop, etc.), comedy or other entertainment. After each performance, there will be a continued show by the members of the HAiR tribe music ensemble. Audience members are encouraged to join in and sing or dance to the music.
Is there more information about the show available? Yes, there is a lot of additional information about the show including a synopsis and a listing of the music at our website at www.stagelightproductions.org. We encourage you to check it out!
Will there be an opportunity to meet with the tribe or production staff? After each performance, the tribe and production staff will be available to meet with you in the theater, lobby or courtyard. Also, after each Saturday matinee performance, there will be a moderated talk-back session between audience, tribe, staff and special guests.
How many seats are there and are they reserved? Theatre on San Pedro Square is an intimate theater with very comfortable cushioned flexible seating for 100-150. For HAiR, our performances will be configured for approximately 125 seats which are general admission, first-come, first-served. We have a limited number of reserved tables if you would like to ensure yourself front-row seating. To use an old cliched expression, "There's not a bad seat in the house!"
Can Seniors or Students sit at reserved tables? Yes, but only if they pay the full price of a reserved table ticket ($30). Our reserved table seating is extremely limited and we have chosen to charge a fixed price for these seats at all performances. We appreciate your understanding.
When should we arrive and when do we get to go into the theater? There is limited lobby space downstairs and a courtyard for waiting in line before we open the theater. The theater will open approximately 45 minutes before each performance for patrons, and there is a full bar serving drinks and snacks for your enjoyment. As mentioned above, approximately 30 minutes before each performance, we will begin informal pre-show entertainment for your enjoyment.
What about parking and restaurants? Parking in downtown San Jose is easy! There is a parking garage across the street from Theatre on San Pedro Square (45 N. Market Street) which offers free parking after 6 PM weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday! There are several excellent restaurants in the immediate vicinity of Theatre on San Pedro Square, plus literally dozens within a few blocks. Adjacent to the theater you will find Peggy Sue's Diner, the Sonoma Chicken Coop, Speido and Blake's Bar and Grill. Are you able to accomodate people with disabilities? Absolutely, but we will need to assist you as we are limited somewhat in this regard. There is an elevator available (the theater is on the second floor) and we would appreciate it if you let us know in advance by e-mail (tickets@stagelightproductions.org) if you will be needing assistance.
How late can I buy tickets? We will keep sales for most shows open on-line until we are sold out or 6 hours before the performance. We will post a notice on this site indicating whether tickets are still available at the box office for the next performance. For the latest information, you can also call the Stagelight Productions ticket line toll-free at 877-29-STAGE and get an update.
