Inca Son Music & Dance of the AndesCambridge, MA
Inca Son means "Sound of the Inca." This acclaimed world music ensemble, founded 20 years ago in Boston, plays the music of its native Peruvian Andes and all of Latin America. Having played on some of the most prestigious stages in this country, from Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center, and entertained before three American Presidents, Inca Son has been called by Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart "the unique bearers of an indispensable South American tradition." Winners of the Boston Music Award, the Independent Music Award and in 2008, the Los Angeles Music Award for Best World Artist, Inca Son's mission is to preserve its rich Andean music legacy and to engage all generations of people in its appreciation and understanding. The group not only provides fully staged music and dance presentations, the latter with its company of award-winning folk dancers, but also gives workshops in Andean music and dance to students of all ages. This year (2009) Inca Son won the "Gold Star" award from the Massachusetts Cultural Council for excellence in artist residency for MA public schools. The group has recorded twelve CD's and its most recent recording, "Inca Son Live from Sanders Theater at Harvard University," was nominated as "Best World Music Album" this year by the international award organization Just Plain Folks.
