Journeys Art Festival 2014 - A benefit for Sisters Of The Road in Portland, OR
Thursday, June 5, 2014 is JOURNEYS ART FESTIVAL - A BENEFIT FOR SISTERS OF THE ROAD, a nonprofit cafe building community and creating systemic solutions to homelessness and poverty in Portland, Oregon.

This year, Journeys focus is music - the universal language. We are thrilled to present to you Charmaine Neville! She is finally back in Portland after over 5 years of performing around the the world, and oh how we've missed her!

Charmaine is the daughter of Charles Neville of the acclaimed Neville Brothers. Charmaine has been described as a crowd magnet, a frisky dynamo, versatile, vivacious, and technically impressive. Her talent for comedy, rhythmic wizardry, her spontaneity, and her vocal and dramatic range all make for a spectacular, energetic, riveting presentation. When she sings "What A Wonderful World", you'd swear Louis Armstrong himself was singing it! If you haven't heard her particular brand of jazz/funk/blues, you will be forever changed when you do. We are warmed, grateful and fortunate that she arranged her schedule so she could perform at Journeys Art Festival.

The evening's stellar lineup includes saxophone player & New Orleans native Reggie Houston. If you're familiar with him, you've felt his warmth and experienced his danceable music. The Portland Waterfront Blues Festival wouldn't be the same without him! Reggie has been performing with Charmaine since 1982, originally in the band "The Survivors" then in "The Charmaine Neville Band".

Joining Reggie will be Portland's own piano goddess, Janice Scroggins. Janice recently earned a Grammy nomination, was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame, earned a Portland Crystal Award and World Arts Foundation Lifetime Achievement award.  While these awards speak to her talent, Portland loves her heart and spirit.

***UPDATE: To our great sadness, Janice Scroggins suddenly passed away on Tuesday, May 27th, deeply affecting all who knew and loved her.  Sisters Of The Road gives its deepest respect and condolences to Janice's family.  The musicians at Journeys Art Festival will be performing in her honor.***

This spectacular evening also includes the talented Shelly Rudolph. Shelly has performed globally, singing her original soul compositions. Her songs are deep and full of emotions that we can all identify with. Her voice is smooth as silk, and she lights up the stage with her bright smile and sultry presence. Joining her will be Chance Hayden on guitar.

Treat yourself and a friend to V.I.P. tickets and spend some schmooze time with the legendary Charmaine Neville, and ace musicians Reggie Houston and Shelly Rudolph.
