Educating for Sustainability
Presented by the Sustainable Oregon Schools Initiative.
In this interactive session designed for administrators and curriculum staff from school districts, charter and independent schools, participants will develop a shared understanding of sustainability and Education for Sustainability (EfS). Jaimie will discuss the Cloud Institute's EfS framework including the core content standards and their alignment with state and national standards as well as with the work of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, Daniel Pink, Peter Senge and Heidi Hayes Jacobs to name a few. Jaimie will offer several case studies of leading schools and school systems on their way to educating for sustainability, and will invite a discussion with participants about what it will take to contribute to a sustainable future through teaching and learning in our schools.
The presentation will be followed by a tour of the new Gladstone School District facilities that were designed and built for sustainability.
Continuing Professional Development certificates will be available.
About the presenter: Jaimie Cloud is an engaging presenter and internationally recognized expert in Sustainability Education, who works with schools and districts around the country.
