Looking for a family-friendly outdoor activity, but don't want to drive to a ski area? Join Park Rangers and REI staff members for a SNOW DAY ON SPECTACLE ISLAND!
Bring your snowshoes, cross-country skis, or hiking boots to experience the island during the winter. This event is also part of the Olympics in Our Parks program, highlighting winter sports at DCR locations and will include snowshoeing races and activities.
We will depart from Boston's Best Cruises' Quincy Shipyard dock (703 Washington St.), and Long Wharf North dock (near the Long Wharf Marriott and Christopher Columbus Park). Then it's off to Spectacle Island for exploring. Spectacle Island boasts five miles of hiking trails and the highest point in Boston Harbor, offering spectacular views of the city and the harbor.
The boat will be our 'base lodge', where you can leave your gear and use the restrooms. For those of you who may be hungry, our full service Snack Bar will be open during this event, serving all of your favorites including hot coffee and cocoa, baked goods, popcorn, hot dogs, chowder, and more!
Boat departures from Quincy & Boston on the following schedule:
Depart Quincy at 10:15 AM
Depart Boston 11:00 AM
Return to Boston: 2:00 PM
Return to Quincy 2:30 PM
Please plan to arrive 20-30 minutes before departure time to allow time for boarding. Limited seating - Reservations are strongly suggested.
Note: Check the temperature and remember to dress in layers for cold-weather activity; it will be warm on the ferry, chilly on the island, and then you may get quite warm again outside, depending on your level of activity.
REI will have a limited number of snowshoes available for loan to the first participants to sign-up for the trip. Call 781.740.1605 x202 for more info.
