John Patrick Shanley (writer of DOUBT) wrote DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA in 1984. This year marks the play's 30th Birthday which means it's time to celebrate by doing a KC revisit! The play is about a love story between two characters: Danny and Roberta. But they don't find their love in the metaphorical world of flowers and bunnies. They find it in relating to each other's darkness. But it is an uphill battle even trying to convince each other that they DESERVE each other's love.
The Different Choices touch on it will be in bringing out the inner kindergartners in the characters, but keeping them the age they are. I call these characters and the real-life people I relate to these characters adult-children. Speaking of relating these characters to real-life people, I have also immersed Danny and Roberta in the cultural world of Butt-Rockers, or Those Who Listen to Nickelback. I hope for that to bring the comedy in a big way!
