Unhireable: An Evening Of Stand-up Comedy with Aaron Standish & Friends
"Unhireable: An Evening of Stand-Up Comedy with Aaron Standish & Friends" Friday, October 3rd Blue Room (139 W. 1st St.) Chico 8pm Admission-$10 in advance at brownpapertickets.com $12 at the door Suggested for a mature audience
Old and new comedy worlds collide when Aaron Standish headlines an evening of stand-up at The Blue Room on Friday, Oct. 3rd. In addition to Standish's longtime piano playing sideman Roland Allen the show also features the return of John "It's My Birthday" Bertoli and an opening set by four members of the Chico Comedy Scene
"Unhireable" is a collection of local, political, personal, topical, and homegrown hipneck stand-up bits that Standish has performed in the larger variety-style comedy shows he and his wife Liz Merry have produced since 1990 as Merry Standish Comedy. And some new stuff.
Roland Allen has been playing piano, singing songs, and performing comedy with Standish since 1978. He's also the brewmaster at Feather Falls Casino and plays in their house band The Growlers. Always nice to have a beer making piano player in your comedy show. He's a busy man and it's a lucky night when we can get him for a performance.
Bertoli was very active during the comedy club boom of the late '80's, including winning an annual 'Just For Laughs' competition in Sacramento. He was also a member of Chico comedy troupes Man Overboard, The Not Brothers, the Allen Standish Comedy Revue, and Merry Standish Comedy. He also had roles in a few independent movies as well as a couple hundred regional TV and radio commercials. He is not on Facebook, so he has no friends.
Don Ashby, Jerm Leather, Steve Swim, and Mark Joseph Leathers are part of a larger group of comics that drive the open mics on Mondays (alternating between The Maltese and DownLo). Comics are staging their own shows in Chico and starting open mics in other towns so they can have more places to play. It's a genuine comedy boom not seen in Chico since the mid-80's when touring stand-ups and local sketch troupes were playing all over town.
If you haven't seen a Stand-Up Standish set in awhile or you want to hear Roland Allen singing original and parody comedy songs or you want to wish John Bertoli a Happy Birthday or you want to see what all the fuss is about with the current stand-up scene then this is the show to go to.
This will be our only primetime Friday night Chico show of the year and The Blue Room is a great venue for stand-up. Theatre seating, beer & wine, and Steve Swim handing you fresh towels in the bathroom. It's a class joint.
Tickets are available for $10 online at brownpapertickets.com Admission at the door will be $12 Showtime is 8 p.m.
"Unhireable" features mature audience material and is recommended for people over 16. POSTS
