THE GHOST BUILDING by Damon Chua
CoA inside The Black Box at The Alexandria Los Angeles, CA
From the winner of the 2007 Ovation Award for Best World Premiere play comes a new tragi-comedy that meld the 1922 silent movie era and the downtrodden, downtown Los Angeles of 2002 through eerie humor and revelations of riotously dark secrets.
At its center is a sharply clever murder mystery investigation led by the spirited but suave Vernon St. Vicks and adventurous Filipina tourist Cha-Cha Mangabay, where they venture to release silent picture starlet Daisy Milbrandt from criminal suspicion all those years ago. But nothing is as it seems, as mounting twists and turns soon lead to an unanticipated end.
Note: Company of Angels is located inside The Black Box at the Alexandria, at 501 S. Spring Street, Los Angeles. Founded in 1959 as an artists cooperative, the company recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a gala event honoring Leonard Nimoy, one of the founders of the company. The theater produces works that reflect the diversity that is Los Angeles and the issues the City faces. The company holds bimonthly playwrights group sessions, accepts original material for first-run production and fosters staged readings and workshops on a regular basis.
