Mahogany Ensemble Theatre, the premiere seasonal resident African-American Theatre company of the MECCA Foundation in Northwest Louisiana, invites you to play a leading role as a 5th Anniversary Season Member.

Enjoy all four plays of the 5th Season for just $50 (regular ticket price $15--that's over a 15% savings).

Mahogany Ensemble proudly presents the 5th Anniversary Season opening production of the hit musical, CROWNS! There is a hat for every occasion, from flirting to churchgoing to funerals to baptisms, and the tradition of hats is traced back to African rituals and slavery and forward to the New Testament and current fashion.

Crowns is a spirit-filled tribute of the faith and fashion of African-American women and their love of church hats.  Crowns peers into the lives of five women and one young girl as it celebrates family, faith, love, loss and finding one's true identity. Yes, Hats are allowed

Mahogany Ensemble continues its season with this holiday celebration based on the Negro sermon poems by James Weldon Johnson.  This production will lift your spirits and rock your soul through rousing free verse, spirit-filled songs and dance. This classic work is a moving experience that audiences will truly enjoy.

Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery by: Shay Youngblood

In celebration of Women's History Month, Mahogany Ensemble Theatre presents Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery, a story of a young black girl's coming of age in the South in the 1960s who was raised by women in the community, some blood related, some not. When she was 12 years old she began her journey to womanhood guided by these very diverse, nontraditional, older black women. Her vivid memories of growing up--recalling the rituals, the faith healings, the stories she was told and the lessons she learned about survival, healing, deep faith and mystery.

A Raisin in the Sun by: Lorraine Hansberry

Mahogany Ensemble Theatre ends its 5th Anniversary Season with the 50th Anniversary of the inspiring classic A Raisin in the Sun.  This award-winning drama tells the story of the Younger family living on Chicago's south side in the 1950s. The story centers on the dream of owning ones own home, as the Younger family searches for a way to grab their piece of the dream, even in the face of prejudice and discrimination.

Note: The Mahogany Season subscription is good for only one show for each production. Your season membership may be used for any Friday or Saturday night at 7:30pm or Saturday matinee at 3:00 pm. Seating will be assigned on a first-purchased-first-served basis. There are a limited number of handicap accessible seats. If you require special seating, please call the Mahogany Ensemble Box Office. The certificate is non refundable and valid from October 2009-May 2010. Scheduled production may be changed due to casting considerations or rights availability beyond the control of Mahogany Ensemble Theatre.
