Arthur Miller's The Crucible chronicles the Salem witch trials and the extreme behavior that can result from dark desires and hidden agendas. Young girls and a slave, Tituba, are caught playacting at casting spells. To avoid punishment, they falsely accuse neighbors of witchcraft. Fueled by fears, jealousy, secrets, lies, and greed, residents turn on each other Â resulting in mass paranoia and death. Arthur Miller's play was inspired by the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s.
