Napa County Reads
The Napa County Office of Education initiated Napa County Reads in 2003 as a way of engaging students in reading. The idea is that both students and adults will read and discuss the same book. Each year a committee of teachers and librarians select a book in the spring and notify the schools. The book is read in early fall, and the author visits the community in October. The author talks to middle school students on site during the day, and then does public presentations in the community in the evening. This year our author, Dr. Francisco Jimenez, is making his third appearance in Napa. His newest book, Reaching Out, is the third in an autobiographical trilogy taking him from the child of migrant laborers who entered the country illegally in search of a better life to an accomplished author and award-winning professor at Santa Clara University. Dr. Jimenez is an inspiring role model for the many Latino students in our community.
