Description
DAVID BYRNE & Friends                              Monday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Co-presented by THE ELLIOTT BAY BOOK COMPANY with SEATTLE ARTS & LECTURES with assistance from the BICYCLE ALLIANCE OF WASHINGTON. Most known as a cofounder of the musical group Talking Heads and as a performing and recording solo artist of international renown, David Byrne is also known for and adept at varied forms of collaboration. These range from other artists such as Brian Eno, Twyla Tharp, or Robert Wilson, to evenings such as this, where he and three invited individuals with different areas of knowledge, will do a program on bicycling and its place in modern life. Occasioning this is the publication of David Byrne's "Bicycle Diaries," (Viking), a brilliant book that episodically takes readers to cities around the world, to musings on music, art, culture, cuisine, and city life, to very practical considerations about bicycle riding, safety, comfort, and pleasure. David Byrne has been riding a bicycle as a primary means of transportation in New York City for almost thirty years. Joining him onstage this evening, with brief presentations and then a q-&-a discussion will be Dave Janis of the Bicycle Alliance of Washington and two other individuals, one speaking from a city planning policy position, the other of a more, big-picture, theoretical urban perspective. Tickets are $30 (and include a pre-signed copy of Bicycle Diaries, available at entry) available at Elliott Bay and via www.brownpapertickets.com starting Saturday, August 22. There is no scheduled book-signing after the program. Town Hall Seattle is located at 1119 Eighth Avenue (at Seneca). For more information, please call Elliott Bay at 206.624.6600 or see www.elliottbaybook.com/events.

Notes
Price of ticket includes one general admission ticket and one presigned copy of David Byrne's book, Bicycle Diaries.  Book pick up will happen at the event. No additional book signing is scheduled.
