Handel's MESSIAH

Rochester Chamber Orchestra, David Fetler, conductor, will open its 2009-2010 season on December 6 at 7 p.m. with the city's only professional presentation this season of Handels Messiah.  

Featured soloists are Rochester's 2009 Classical Idol winner, soprano Jacqueline Noparstak, Glimmerglass Operas alto Leah Wool, and the return of internationally known tenors Douglas Ahlstedt and bass Dean Peterson, both with many laudable Metropolitan Opera performances.  

The impressive Festival Singers will be joined by the clear-sounding Bach Childrens Chorus who will be featured in two of the arias.



Note: Handel's Messiah, the most famous oratorio ever written, will open the Rochester Chamber Orchestra's 2009-2010 season. This years Messiah will feature Rochester's Classical Idol winner soprano Jacqueline Noparstak. Glimmerglass Operas alto Leah Wool, hailed by Opera News as "among the more distinctive and accomplished artists of her generation," with a "distinguished, lovely timbre," Leah Wool is rapidly garnering critical acclaim for her performances across the country. Ms. Wool is the recipient of a 2008 Sullivan Foundation Award. Ms. Wool has performed the title role in La Cenerentola with Orlando Opera, Meg in Little Women with Syracuse Opera, Amastre in Xerxes with Boston Baroque, and a return to the Metropolitan Opera to cover Myrtale in Thas. In the summer of 2009, she will make her dbut with Glimmerglass Opera as The Secretary in Menotti's The Consul. She will sing the title role in Handels Amadigi di Gaula with Boston Baroque in October of 2009, followed by Hnsel with Kentucky Opera in November, and Isabella in Litaliana in Algeri with Utah Opera in March of 2010. Notable past performances also include the Second Novice in Suor Angelica at the Metropolitan Opera (company dbut), the title role in Massenets Cendrillon and Erika in Vanessa with Central City Opera, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel at Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Stphano in Romo et Juliette with Toledo Opera, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Newton Symphony, Delia in Il Viaggio a Reims at New York City Opera, Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Utah Opera, and Loena in La Belle Hlne with Santa Fe Opera. Ms. Wool was one of a select group of Yale Opera alumni invited to record the complete song collection of Charles Ives, which was released in 2008 on Naxos Records. Tenor Douglas Ahlstedt who is an RCO favorite and has sung more than 189 performances at the Metropolitan Opera and performed in renowned opera houses in Europe, the Orient, Africa and South America. Mr. Ahlstedt has been featured in leading roles, including Fenton in Verdis Falstaff and Pelleas in Debussys Pelleas et Melisande. Dean Peterson, one of operas most versatile and charismatic basses, who has appeared on the stages of the worlds leading opera houses, including the Met, and with most of today's leading conductors and orchestras. He has been a featured soloist at La Scalla and has sung under the baton of Ricardo Muti, Giandrea Bavezzeni, and Sir Neveille Mariner. Joining them will be the impressive Festival Singers and the delightful Bach Childrens Chorus. This years performance will be at 7:00pm on December 6, 2009 at the Hochstein Performance Center.
