Doug Wright's intimate examination of the life of the German transgender Charlotte von Mahlsdorf who survived the oppressive regimes of the Nazis and the communists-in a pair of heals. Based on his own conversations with Charlotte, Doug Wright's one-man-show returns to San Diego after premiering in 2003, earning him the Pulitzer Prize for drama the following year. Jefferson Mays originated the solo piece Off-Broadway and then on Broadway where the production earned two Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Lead Actor in A Play.
Now, celebrated San Diego actor James P. Darvas has taken on the challenging task of bringing Charlotte and 34 other characters to life under the direction of Mark Zweifach at San Diego's famed 10th Avenue Arts center in the cabaret space.
