Beginning July 1st, 84 comedians will compete over 10 weeks at the historic Purple Onion. The championship round will be held on September 2nd, and one winner will be crowned the SFstandup.com Bay Area Laugh Leader (B.A.L.L.). Scoring will be based on a combination of audience vote and judges' vote.
The prizes include cash, stage time at top Bay Area comedy clubs, radio appearances, and more.
First round shows:
July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
August 5, 12
Semi-finals:
August 19, August 26

About The Purple Onion:
The Purple Onion is one of the most historic comedy venues in America, and has frequently been voted the Best Comedy Club in San Francisco. The Smothers Brothers recorded their ground-breaking debut album there in 1961, and Zach Galifianakis filmed his popular dvd there in 2005. Phyllis Diller began her career at the Purple Onion, and other past performers include legends such as Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, and Woody Allen. |
