The evening will include great music, free intro Salsa class, drummers, performances, a complimentary drink, raffles and more! The party is a fundraiser to help support our education and outreach work in Cuba this July. The company will be there in full force - this will be an evening to remember! General Admission is $20 - or only $15 with the purchase of tickets for CONTRA-TIEMPO's June 13th show in Los Angeles! PARTY WITH US on the 6th and COME SEE OUR FULL SHOW ON THE 13th!
THE COMPANY:
CONTRA-TIEMPO is a non-profit, Los Angeles based, activist dance company, founded and directed by Ana Maria Alvarez. CONTRA-TIEMPO is dedicated to transforming the world through dance. Our unique Urban Latin Dance Theater brings to life voices that are not traditionally heard on the concert stage. We build community, facilitate dialogue and move youth to imagine what is possible in the world.
The company fuses Salsa, Afro-Cuban, West African, Hip-Hop, and abstract dance-theater, to create an invigorating blend of physically intense and politically astute performance. While their performances are consistently electrifying, what sets the company apart most is its unique relationship to its own community. CONTRA-TIEMPO is, much like the community it reaches, a tapestry. CONTRA-TIEMPO is an active and uncompromisingly radical take on the ways in which artists function within communities. Its company members, professional dancers and artists, are also immigrants, teachers, activists, organizers and movers of all types living and working in Los Angeles. Each member lives and struggles within the varied and infinitely complex political and personal landscapes, which Ana Mara seeks to address in her work.
THE SPACE:
IDA Hollywood is a new dance facility located in the heart of Hollywood, just one block away from the world famous Kodak Theatre. Our facility includes five deluxe dance studios offering OPEN CLASSES in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip-Hop, Swing, Salsa, Bollywood, Belly Dancing and many more! Our instructors are working industry professionals who have worked with a range of A-List celebrities from Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Paula Abdul and Prince - to name a few. We also have four CONTRA-TIEMPO company members offering classes as part of our line up.
IDA is the place chosen by celebrities - such as Britney Spears, Rihanna, Lil Kim, Snoop Dogg and The Pussy Cat Dolls, among others. IDA has already welcomed ÂAmericaÂs Best Dance CrewÂ, ÂDancing with the StarsÂ, and the ÂStep Up 3Â auditions.NOTE: No one under 18 years old will be admitted.
