Sister Rose's Passion
Sister Rose E.Thering, a Wisconsin-born Dominican nun and educator who was at her recent death an emeritus professor at Seton Hall University, devoted the majority of her life to pressuring the Roman Catholic Church to repudiate its teachings that all Jews, not only past but present and future as well, bore collective responsibility for the crucifixion of Jesus.  Eventually, in 1965, at the urging of Pope John Paul XXIII, the Vatican ecumenical council known as "Vatican II" issued its famous document entitled "Nostra Aetate" ("In Our Times"), which clearly and unequivocally absolved the Jews of this long-standing accusation of guilt and, in fact, quoted from Sister Rose's writings.  Commentary by many noted and respected Roman Catholic theologians highlight this amazing story of one woman's crusade to do what she felt was right. Plan to stay after the movie for an engaging discussion featuring Catholic and Jewish clergy, sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Silicon Valley Conference on Community and Justice, and the Anti-Defamation League. The topic: "What Has Vatican II Meant for Our Community?"
