Strengthening Local Economies, Everywhere! Dinner & Fair
Community Alliance for Global Justice presents 3rd Annual
Strengthening Local Economies, Everywhere Dinner & Fair!
Sat. July 18, 2009

New Location!  St. Demetrios Church, 2100 Boyer Avenue East, in the Montlake neighborhood of Seattle

In the face of intersecting food, climate and economic crises, we all feel the ever more urgent need to build a strong, global movement for just and sustainable economies. We invite you to join CAGJ in our effort to build community solidarity, while also connecting local and global struggles for justice, through this fun, engaging and inspiring event.  CAGJ is a Seattle-based, grassroots organization that has worked locally for justice in the global economy since 2001.  Our programs  Food Justice Project, AGRA Watch and Trade Justice Project - involve volunteers in organizing and educational activities aimed at taking action for alternatives to corporate-led globalization. Last Fall we hosted a free two day teach-in, "Confronting the Food Crisis", which involved hundreds of people in workshops and hands-on activities. The annual fair and dinner raises crucial funds for our organization while also engaging over 400 people in the food justice movement.

Fair 3 - 6pm (Free and open to the public): This year's Fair will involve multiple organizations presenting their work to the public in addition to hands-on workshops and opportunities to learn about food and farming directly from farmers and food-workers.  Participants will also enjoy live music, hors doeuvres and libations!

Dinner 6 - 9pm: As with past years, volunteer chefs will prepare the dinner with contributions from Fair Trade partners as well as local food producers. We will also have the privilege of tasting the fine foods of some of Seattle's best chefs who are dedicated to locally sourcing their foods.  We will continue our tradition of honoring WA small farmers and food workers  including farmworkers, grocery-store workers, restaurant workers and others  at each table, where guests will be served family style.

The "Support a Farmer/Food worker" price level gives you entry and also ensures that a local farmer or food worker can be one of our honored guests at the event!

Keynote:
Steve Williamson, UFCW 21 on Food workers' rights in the global food economy.  United Food and Commercial Workers Local 21 is the largest private sector local union in the state of Washington with over 31,000 members working in grocery stores, and retail, health care and other service sector jobs.

Dancing! 9 - 11pm: We are excited to announce that live music and dancing will follow the dinner program this year!
