In 2005 British actor Julian Sands was approached by the Nobel Prize winning playwright and poet Harold Pinter to prepare a set of Pinter's poems for a special presentation in London. Working closely with Pinter, he was granted a rare insight into his personality, life, and work. This extraordinary collaboration evolved into a wonderfully humorous and fascinating solo show directed by John Malkovich titled, A Celebration of Harold Pinter.
Performances followed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011, and subsequently in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Budapest, Paris and London.
From the excellent reviews...
"...this modest, affecting show embodies the notion of the actor as a transparent vessel through which we see the thoughts and feelings of others." ~The New York Times
"...an austere, ascetic, restrained performance, one that captures the pugnacity, precision, and a little of the dry humor of an exacting writer." ~Variety
Mr. Sands will present his passionate tribute to one of the great playwrights of the 20th Century as a benefit for St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 31st at 7:30 p.m. in the church. Followed by a reception, this event promises to be both entertaining and enlightening, and will help support the important capital campaign for this historic Hollywood church.
