The hilarious DINA MARTINA returns to San Francisco with the highly-acclaimed DINA MARTINA - AMPLE WATTAGE! at Rebel (1760 Market St. @ Octavia), May 16, 17 & 18, 2014. After attaining cult status on the west coast, Martina's official New York debut in 2005 sold out in minutes and left jaded audiences (including John Waters, Matt Stone, Whoopi Goldberg, John Cameron Mitchell, Jennifer Coolidge, Bruce Vilanch, Joyce Dewitt, and Jeff Stryker -- a list as strange has her shows) stunned and clamoring for more.
AMPLE WATTAGE!, like all of Martina's surreal shows, promises to be a hysterically funny blend of unequalled song, unnecessary dance, unattractive costumes and unbelievable video. Perhaps the best description of Dina comes from a glowing review in Seattle's famed alternative weekly The Stranger: "Her body moves like two pigs fighting their way out of a sleeping bag and her face looks like the collision of a Maybelline truck with a Shoney's buffet, but Dina redefines what it means to be a star."
DINA MARTINA has packed venues in Seattle as well as New York, Los Angeles, Provincetown, Vancouver, Toronto and London. Martina has shared the bill with acts such as Margaret Cho, Justin Bond, Modest Mouse and Nina Hagen. She's the recipient of two GLAAD Media Award nominations for Best Off-Off-Broadway Show and a nomination for the 2007 Alpert Award. Dina Martina is the recipient of The Stranger's 2012 Genius Award for Theater.
