Event
The Empty Chalices/Calices Vacios
The sixth production of this play is being held at the Cervantes Institute of Chicago to commemorate the poet's centenary, on selected dates between April 1-12. Delmira Agustini lived and wrote 100 years ahead of her time; as one critic noted, "She was the first woman to write freely of women's feelings about love, sensuality, and art." Her poetry was considered scandalous for many years in her home country of Uruguay. This absorbing play depicts her life and works up until the age of 27, when all threatened to end at the hands of a jealous ex-husband... Exquisite and sensuous, the play will enchant you from beginning to end. Performances in English are on Tuesday April 1, Saturday April 5, and Monday April 7. Performances in Spanish are on Tuesday April 8, Friday April 11, and Saturday April 12. Evening performances are from 7:00-8:30; Saturday matinees are from 12:00-1:30 PM. All are held at the Cervantes Institute.
